אֶחָד הַבֵּן וְאֶחָד הַבַּת בַּנַּחֲלָה, אֶלָּא שֶׁהַבֵּן נוֹטֵל פִּי שְׁנַיִם בְּנִכְסֵי הָאָב וְאֵינוֹ נוֹטֵל פִּי שְׁנַיִם בְּנִכְסֵי הָאֵם. וְהַבָּנוֹת נִזּוֹנוֹת מִנִּכְסֵי הָאָב וְאֵינָן נִזּוֹנוֹת מִנִּכְסֵי הָאֵם:

אחד הבן ואחד הבת בנחלה. הכי קאמר, אחד הבן ואחד הבת שוין בירושת נכסי האם כבירושת נכסי האב, ואין הפרש בין ירושת נכסי האם לירושת נכסי האב, אלא שהבכור נוטל פי שנים בנכסי האב ואינו נוטל פי שנים בנכסי האם:

ואינו נוטל פי שנים בנכסי האם. טעמא פירש הר"ב במשנה ט' פרק ח' דבכורות:
והבנות נזונות מנכסי האב. בתנאי כתובה. כדתנן במשנה י"א פרק ד' דכתובות. ודין המזונות ב[ריש] פרק דלקמן:

The son and the daughter are alike concerning inheritance, save that the [firstborn] son takes a double portion of the father’s property but he does not take a double portion of the mother’s property. And the daughters receive maintenance from the father’s property but not from the mother’s property.
